Inequalitarian pluralism is a pattern of ethnic relations in which the minority cultural group is not absorbed into the dominant culture but is instead permitted to keep its separate identity. This pattern of ethnic relations is defined by minority and majority groups' uneven access to resources and power. The minority group is permitted to keep its identity but is not accorded the same rights and benefits as the majority group. Regarding economic and social possibilities, the minority group is disadvantaged due to uneven access to resources and authority. Under inequalitarian pluralism, for instance, the minority group may not have the same educational or career possibilities as the majority group or may not be permitted to vote in political elections.
